Special Issue of the Journal Energy Policy on the Current State of Africa's Energy Systems
PESD Affiliate Mark Howells, along with Joe Aldy and Leo Schrattenholzer, have edited a special issue of the journal Energy Policy on the role of energy in Africa's social and economic development. The issue includes papers that examine an African interaction with the rest of the planet's liquid fuels market, the effect of various drivers on energy and technology transitions within Africa, as well as new quantitative models for projecting aspects of those energy transitions.

Washington Post publishes Fellow Nadja Victor on Russian Gas
Op-ed: Washington Post on April 6, 2006Russia controls over a quarter of the world's gas reserves -- months ago the Russian energy giant Gazprom forced Ukraine to pay sharply higher prices for natural gas. Last week Gazprom announced it was tripling gas prices in Belarus, a country that is politically close to the Kremlin.

United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs reports on energy
The United Nations has published David Victor's report, "The Effects of Power Sector Reform on Energy Services for the Poor," via their Division for Sustainable Development. The report examines the connections, if any, between the many efforts to introduce market forces in the power sector with the provision of electric services to world's poorest households. Read more »
