IIM Ahmedabad-Stanford Joint Study on "Electricity Sector Reforms: Impact on Development and Environment" is a project sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The study focuses on the effects of the electricity sector reforms in India on the technologies, institutions and environment. The study takes the Indian macroeconomic environment as its point of departure, while viewing the Indian states as the focal points of electricity reform policies, decisions and actions.

Two States - Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat - are chosen for the specific and detailed studies. The project reports cover the analysis of electricity sector dynamics at the state level and their influence on the investment, technology type and size, fuel choice and operational practices at the plant level. The assessment sheds light on the impacts of reforms dynamics on the ownership, risks, investment flows, market structure, and emissions baseline at the state and sector levels.

An important contribution of the project is a comparative analysis of Indian states with the Chinese provinces of Guangdong, Liaoning and Hubei.
