Varun leads the carbon capture and storage (CCS) research at PESD. He is analyzing the commercial viability of different business models for the CCS industry. Besides CCS, Varun’s research includes understanding the political economy of energy policy in India. He is also interested in the design of climate-change policy and the evolution of carbon markets.
Varun received his Ph.D. and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford with specialization in Energy Systems. His Ph.D. thesis was on improving the catalytic efficiency of fuel cells for automotive applications. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur.
