New Forum on Contemporary Europe research project on History, Memory and Reconciliation

In spring 2009, the Forum on Contemporary Europe (FCE) and the Division on Languages, Civilizations and Literatures (DLCL) delivered the first part of its multi-year research and public policy program on Contemporary History and the Future of Memory. The program explored how communities that have undergone deep and violent political transformations try to confront their past. Read more »

Questions of integration: social, political, and economic incorporation of New Europe in a globalized world

During 2007-2008 the forum on contemporary Europe launched the second phase of its comprehensive, multi-year analysis of Europe and the EU's global relations in the context of an expanding European Union. What began last year with analysis of political membership this year added a focus on implications of expanded membership in key areas, including social integration of immigrant communities. Forum researchers and invited scholars addressed questions central to understanding the process of European integration and areas of concern it raises. Read more »

Anna Lindh Fellowship

The Forum on Contemporary Europe, at Stanford University's Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, is pleased to announce the inauguration of the Anna Lindh Fellowship for the study of Scandinavia, the Baltic region and northern Europe's role in trans-Atlantic relations. The fellowships are part of the Forum's new Program on Sweden, Scandinavia, and the Baltic Region whose aim is to promote research on this region. The Anna Lindh Fellowship is designed to bring fellows from Sweden to Stanford University for short periods of research, library and archive consultation, and collaboration with Stanford faculty and community. The Forum on Contemporary Europe is now accepting applications for the Anna Lindh Fellowship for the 2007-2008 academic year.
