SPICE Wins Buchanan Prize for Fifth Time
SPICE NewsIn March 2010, SPICE received the 2010 Franklin Buchanan Prize at the Association for Asian Studies annual conference in Philadelphia, awarded annually to an outstanding curriculum publication on Asia designed for any educational level, elementary through university. SPICE was recognized for its two-part Korea-focused series, U.S.-South Korean Relations and Uncovering North Korea. Read more »

First Curriculum unit "U.S.-South Korean Relations" in U.S. High Schools
KSP News"Despite the long and established alliance, U.S.-South Korean relations and Korean history are not adequately taught in American secondary schools. The first curriculum unit, "U.S-South Korean Relations," seeks to fill the gap by exposing students to four core pillars of the alliance: democracy, economic prosperity, security, and socio-cultural interaction," says Gary Mukai, director of the Stanford Program on International and Cross-Cultural Education (SPICE).

SPICE launches 'The Road to Beijing'
SPICE NewsThe Stanford program on International and Cross-cultural Education (SPICE) has just announced a major new interdisciplinary, interactive initiative for middle school and high school students on the road to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. "The Road to Beijing" initiative includes a new documentary featuring world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, a new documentary developed by NBC that features Olympians who will participate in the Beijing Olympics, curriculum materials addressing Beijing and issues raised by the Olympics, an interactive website, and teacher professional development.
