Research Interests
Poverty and Inequality, Latin American Politics, Redistributive Programs and Politics in the Andean Region, Socialism in Latin America.


Elena is the program development analyst at FSI. She joined FSI in 2011 as the research program associate for the Program on Poverty and Governance at CDDRL. She is also the student liaison for the FSI summer field internship in Guatemala.

Before joining FSI, she received her MA in Latin American Studies and a BA with Honors in International Relations, both from Stanford University. Her thesis focused on ethnopopulism and inequality in Bolivia's social reform.

While a student, Elena was a Stanford in Government fellow at the Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia, where she interned for the Americas program, focusing on the 2009 Honduran coup d'etat and new efforts at Andean Region unity. Also at Stanford, she served the university as a research assistant, writing tutor, residential assistant, and new student orientation coordinator. She was a recipient of the 2010 Award of Excellence for Commitment and Service to the University.
