Katherine Herz joined CHP/PCOR in July 2005 to participate in the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's Fellowship in Health Care Research and Policy. Prior to that, she completed a residency in pediatrics at the University of California-San Francisco. She is interested in child health and public policy, including the influence of prenatal care on birth outcomes. She is also interested in global health and the intersection of child health, economic development and the environment. Her work experience includes internships at the Department of Health and Human Services' Public Health Policy Division, and at the Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues.

Herz received a BA in economics from Princeton University, where she completed a senior thesis on the determinants of low birth weight, focusing on the role of prenatal care. She received an MD from the University of California-San Francisco, where she completed her pediatrics residency. She is certified as a Wilderness First Responder through the Wilderness Medicine Institute.
