Global impact of hydroelectric dams may be significant

In the News: Nature on November 30, 2006

Nature magazine included findings from Danny Cullenward's research analyzing emissions of greenhouse gases from hydroelectric dams in the tropics. He estimates that dams release between 95 million and 122 million tonnes of methane per year. His work has also been featured in a recent report by Berkeley-based International Rivers Network and in the San Francisco Chronicle.
