British Islamist fighters in Syria a cause for concern

British Intelligence sources estimate about 100 of its citizens are fighting for Islamist groups in Syria. CISAC's Thomas Hegghammer explains that few Islamists from Western countries return and attack their homeland, but those who do generally carry out more successful attacks.

Despite this, many British fighters are joining the ranks of Islamist groups that focus regionally and do not train fighters to launch attacks on Western soil.
